mission have now been transferred to a Chinese nanobiotechnology lab for study.

The plants, including rauwolfia and salvia miltiorrhiza (also known as red sage), were used to produce nanomedicines to treat cancerous tumors, Professor Zhang Yangde with China’s Laboratory of Nanobiotechnology at the Central South University told the Changsha Daily newspaper in Hunnan Province on Thursday

Anti-tumor nanomaterials can be obtained from extracts of the herbal plants, Zhang said, adding researchers hoped the microgravity environment in outer space could have spurred gene mutation of the plants and enabled them to grow and reproduce faster.

Rauwolfia is a genus of evergreen trees and shrubs of the Apocynaceae family. Rich in alkaloid, the plant is widely used to produce anti-hypertensive drugs.

The natural reserves of this plant are declining as a result of over-harvesting. The international Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources has listed the plant as endangered.

Salvia miltiorrhiza is a shade-providing perennial flowering plant, highly valued for its roots in traditional Chinese medicine.

Other samples aboard the spacecraft included the seeds of 25 endangered plants and live samples of aquatic animals and plants.

The Shenzhou-7 space module carrying three taikonauts landed safely by parachute on Sept. 28 in China’s northern grasslands after a 68-hour flight. The mission included the first ever spacewalk by a Chinese astronaut

How to find a signature scent that you’ll want to wear more than around the store, and the things to consider, such as style and expense, before you buy a cologne or perfume.

Perfumes and colognes are perhaps the easiest fashion accessory: you dot, dab or spray and you’re on your way. Purchasing the perfect bottle of Eau de Parfum can be about as hard as finding a rent-controlled apartment. There’s a lot of cologne in those bottles, and it can be surprising how long it lasts. Even if you’re not pinching pennies, you don’t want to be stuck with six ounces of the wrong scent.

The Perfect Eau

There are many different flavors and brands and types of colognes. Classic, clean, fresh, floral, earthy, spicy, sexy, musky… the list goes on and on. You don’t have to stick to one brand in order to have a signature scent. Layering scents is a creative way to avoid the boredom that sometimes arrives after you’ve been using one exclusive product for a while. A good means of experimentation is to mix the scents on your wrists, and if you like the results then dab them elsewhere. On the other hand, layering scents does not have to be like blending lipsticks directly on top of each other to achieve the perfect coloration. For subtle layering, lightly dab one kind of cologne in strategic locations, such as pulse points, then lightly spray your other favorite perfume in the air and let it float onto you.Expense

Many people associate certain aromas and directly link them to specific individuals, in this way fragrances are like investments, sometimes they’re pricy and they can be around for a long time.

If you’re looking for affordable perfumes, the kind of reusable scent that can be spritzed not only on you, but all over the place, Calgon and The Healing Garden offer many inexpensive body mists that range from fresh florals to spicy exotics.

If you’re strictly a fan of designer labels, but are looking for a deal, the last place most people think to look would be the local pharmacy. However, often drugstores offer extremely reasonable prices on everything from Calvin Klein to Escada to even J.Lo’s latest concoction.

Smart Tips

If you have a subscription to a magazine, then you’re no stranger to perfume ads and their samples. If you find one you like, don’t immediately assume that it’s going to smell good once you put it on. For example, a cologne that smells fabulous on your best friend may not work for you because the fragrance must mix with your own body chemistry. A crisp and clean scent on one person may smell medicinal on another. You wouldn’t buy a car without taking it for a test drive, why should you buy perfume without taking it for a 20-minute spin around the store?

If you find a scent you love, but it doesn’t necessarily mix well with your body chemistry, try lightly applying the perfume on your clothes, along the neckline for example. Test run on a seam on the inside of your shirt first (to make sure the perfume doesn’t stain). If you find that you still enjoy the fragrance after about 20 minutes, then go for it!

When shopping for a perfume, if you’ve been trying on several different brands, ever notice an antiseptic smell after a while? After a while, the olfactory senses in your nose are unable to determine unique differences in the formulas, and eventually the fragrances will blend together in kind of medicinal musk. To keep your senses of smell sharp, try on no more than three different perfumes in one shopping session.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition that arises from the wrist due to repetitive motion. It often affects people who work on the computer, as well as others who do repetitive tasks with their hands, such as builders, plumbers, etc. It is described as tightness in the wrist that leads to numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand. This is incurred by the following: the carpal tunnel is an area in the wrist made up of nine muscle tendons, which surround the Median Nerve, and lies across the carpal (wrist) bones. Laid over the tunnel is a band of tight tissue called the Flexor Retinaculum, which keeps the wrist together. The Median Nerve gives feeling to most of the palm side of the hand. Repeating motions in these muscles causes them to swell and squeeze the nerve. Because of the Flexor Retinaculum, the swelling has no place to go except for in the nerve space, which causes the numbness, tingling, and severe pain into the wrist. Many people with ongoing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome chose to have surgery which cuts and releases the Flexor Retinaculum and allows the area to expand. This means that the tight space is now gone, and any swelling the muscles incur will no longer affect the nerve.
Fortunately, there are some exercises to treat Carpal Tunnel in the early stages to relieve the swelling and strengthen the muscles so the repetitive motion no longer bothers them. Doing these treatments early on when symptoms first arise will likely delay, if not dispel, the need for surgery.
The first basic treatments to parallel exercises are rest and ice. Resting often in-between motions is important to keep the muscles from swelling. While it is often difficult to rest during the job, try to space out your time to give your hands a rest. For example, instead of typing endlessly for hours, take a break every half hour or so, and do other work such as copying, filing, running errands, etc. (This will save on your eyes too!). If you work in manual labor, try to divvy up your jobs so that you aren’t using your hands for long periods of time. In addition, wrist splints for carpal tunnel are also beneficial, as they place your wrist and hand in a better position to function, thereby decreasing symptoms without restricting motions. In addition, placing ice on your wrists for fifteen minutes after exceedingly long days at work can reduce any swelling that has occurred and thereby reducing symptoms.
Exercising those nine muscles in the carpal tunnel as well as the muscles surrounding the wrist can also be beneficial. However, it is important that you exercise these muscles when the symptoms of carpal tunnel are the least. If you try to exercise after a long day and the muscles are swollen, the swelling will only increase and make the symptoms worse. In addition, carpal tunnel can cause weakness in the hands, so if you can’t grip correctly, the exercises will not be beneficial.
The first exercises are for hand-gripping, such as squeezing a soft ball in your hand (this also relieves stress!). First, do general squeezes, using all the fingers, at three sets of ten repetitions. Then, do squeezes with one finger and thumb at a time. For example, the first finger and thumb at three sets of ten, then the second finger and thumb, etc. These are “pinching” exercises. Next you should get a light hand weight of about two pounds and grip it in your hand. Do three sets of ten reps of turning your hand over to the palm side then back over to the dorsum side. With the hand weight and the palm side of your hand facing the table, so three sets of ten reps of “wrist extensions,” or bringing the back of your hand toward you with your arm flat on the table. Next, flip your hand over, and with the weight and the palm side of your hand facing you, do three sets of ten reps of “wrist flexions,” or bringing the palm side of your hand toward you with your hand on the table. These basic exercises can strengthen the muscles in and around your carpal tunnel so that they can sustain activity for a longer period of time without swelling. As always, consult your physician immediately when you start experiencing symptoms, and before you begin any strict exercise regime.

Hurricane season is from june to novemeber. There are certain places and times hurricanes will hit because of the needed conditions for their creation.

What’s in a name? When it comes to hurricanes a name is particularly significant. Since 1953 Atlantic tropical storms have been named from lists established by the National Hurricane Center, and up until 1979 hurricanes were only named after females. Currently there are six lists of names that are used universally—each list contains an alternating sequence of male and female names. The World Meteorological Organization has created this uniform naming system to avoid the confusion associated with multiple discoveries of the hurricane at various spots around the world among coastal bases and ships at sea. During hurricane season confusion over the storm’s name is, and should be, the least important matter of concern.

Hurricane season begins on June 1st and ends November 30th. The reason why there is a “hurricane season” is because there are specific conditions necessary for the creation of a hurricane. The ocean water temperature must be warm—at least eighty degrees Fahrenheit. This warm temperature translates into heat energy that the storm will need to be able to survive. Hurricanes in the northern hemisphere have trouble forming after November since, by then, the water has cooled considerably. There must also be a low wind shear from the bottom to the top of the atmosphere for a hurricane to develop. If the winds at the high altitude over the tropical wave are strong and those at the base near the water are weak the discrepancy will have a slicing or “shearing” effect on the storm and will disallow its formation. The last element needed for the creation of a hurricane is a low pressure system. The last two elements can occur at any time of the year, but without the warm water temperatures, hurricanes will not form in the winter and cooler months.Knowing when a hurricane will strike is only half the battle—the other important point is to know where one is likely to strike. Hurricanes technically only occur on the eastern and gulf coasts of the United States, Central America, and Mexico. While storms of equal caliber occur elsewhere in the world, they are called either typhoons or cyclones.

Being prepared for a hurricane is possible in some instances; in others, however, evacuation is the only proper and safe response. Since some hurricanes can reach wind speeds of over one hundred and ninety miles per hour, dueling nature’s storms is not often a good idea. Hurricanes can last anywhere from hours to over thirty days. As the hours and days go by the hurricane weakens into extra-tropical storms. Moving over land makes a hurricane decrease in strength rapidly. Hurricanes have the potential to bring great damage to the land since they bring rain, sustained levels of extremely high wind, and water surge. This combination of factors can destroy a coastal town and cause great damager to cities located inland. Hurricanes have the capacity to level millions of trees, disrupt power services state-wide, and flatten houses by the thousands. Once a hurricane forms it is rated on a scale called the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. There are five categories in the scale. Hurricanes in categories three, four, and five are considered very serious and generally cause significant damage.

Residents living in regions where hurricanes often hit are familiar with the procedures involved in preparing for a storm and evacuating. Since advance warning of a hurricane can save thousands of lives, regions in hurricane zones devote a significant amount of the budget during the hurricane season to make sure every effort is made to identify, to track, and to brace for these powerful and damaging storms.

High-tech companies need people to lead design and other teams to project completion. Introduction to the job of a managers.

Technology has changed the way companies do business, and new organizational models are being drawn up to adapt to new methods and procedures. In businesses that specialize in research and development, many different projects may be underway at any given time. In such an environment, it is important that one person takes charge, leading the team through to the successful completion of the project. This is the job of the program (or project) manager.

The whole concept of management has changed dramatically in the past decade. Gone is the dictatorial tyrant who ruled with an iron fist, and whose job it was to keep employees in line. In today’s technological environment, motivated individuals know their responsibilities and require little or no supervision in doing their jobs. Software and hardware engineers work independently, often putting in long hours in order to get the job done. Technical writers, drafting personnel, production technicians, and validation personnel among others, all know what is required of them, and when focused on their work, do not need to be supervised. While people are able to work much more independently on projects, the project itself requires management, and the program manager is generally more focused on meeting deadlines and ensuring that the project is running smoothly. Many engineering companies use a formal design control process in the development of new projects. This process, known as the DCP, divides the project into stages, normally seven. Each stage spells out what work must be completed, specific documentation requirements and other particulars. At the beginning of the project, an end date is set for each stage. When the work in the stage is complete, a meeting is held and all pertinent parties will sign off on that stage.

The program manager is responsible to ensure that the work for each stage is completed on time and done correctly. If problems arise, he or she must see that they are corrected. The program manager bears the entire responsibility for the completion of the project and is accountable to upper management, share holders and business partners. Frequently, monetary incentives will be rewarded if the program is completed on time.

Normally, companies require program managers to have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. Rather than an engineering or technical degree, many companies are now looking for people with degrees in business management or even more specifically, program management. Often, a program manager will hold a Master’s in business administration (MBA) or other high-level degree.

A good program manager must be extremely well organized, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. He or she must be diplomatic and work well with others. The ability to lead is crucial, since the job is more about leadership than actually managing. A program manager must also work well under pressure.

Compensation for program managers varies, but in many cases, they receive a salary as well as a cash incentive for completing the project on time. This is a job where experience definitely allows an individual to command a higher salary. Sometimes, a program manager is promoted from within to lead a team, but it is common for companies to look outside for new program managers with a specific skill set. Good engineers do not always make good program managers since they are too focused on the details of the project, not on the bigger picture.

Certainly, the next decade will see an increase in the number of program managers required to staff an ever-growing number of high tech companies. This is a field that offers an excellent opportunity for future growth as well. Starting on a smaller scale, an individual can work his or her way up to a top-level company program management position.

Describes the reasons why a milk bath is beneficial for the skin. Lists necessary ingredients as well as optional ones.

Milk has never been something you just pour on cereal, although it seems many of us have forgotten that. Milk has been used to clean and nourish skin for centuries. It is believed that Cleopatra used to bathe herself in camel’s milk quite frequently. Taking a milk bath is one of the easiest ways to improve the look and feel of your skin almost instantly. If you have a bathtub and a carton of milk in your refrigerator, then you already have everything you need.

Milk is incredibly beneficial for the skin in many different ways. Its various ingredients serve a multitude of skin-improving purposes. Part of the reason milk works wonders for skin is because it contains different kinds of acids. Don’t be frightened by the word “acids,” because the kind contained in milk is too mild to cause burning of the skin. The alpha hydroxy acid contained in milk, called lactic acid, acts as a gentle cleanser for skin.Another naturally occurring acid in milk is a beta hydroxy acid which acts is an excellent skin exfoliant. Exfoliation is extremely important when it comes to skin care. Removing the old skin cells makes way for the newer, more vibrant skin underneath to shine through.

Many milk bath producers enrich their products with vitamin E to further condition skin but milk naturally contains other skin helping vitamins on its own so purchasing such a product is not really necessary.

Milk also contains fat and proteins that provide the skin with a softer, more supple feeling. For this reason, it is not productive to bathe in skim milk. The fat milk naturally contains can serve a good purpose when it is not ingested.

Materials:

A bath tub filled with warm water

1 and ½ quarts of whole milk

Stove

Pan

Measuring cup

How to:

Find a clean pan in your kitchen and measure out the milk. (If you want to use more than the above listed, that’s fine but you don’t need more than ½ gallon.) Pour the milk into the pan and gently warm up the milk on low to medium-low heat. Your milk need not come to a boil! While the milk is heating, start running the warm bath water. When the milk is heated pour it into the bath and viola! Your milk bath is complete.

At this point you can soak and enjoy. However, many people complain about the scent of a milk bath. There are a numerous optional items you can add to the bath to make the stink disappear. You may want to add to the bath some citrus oils or a strong scented flower essence such as rose oil. Adding lightly crushed lavender petals will cover any odd smell and its fragrance is known for its soothing qualities. Adding fragrant crushed herbs such as mint or thyme can also help.

If you are feeling particularly indulgent, add chocolate shavings or powdered cocoa to the milk while you are warm the milk. Remember to warm the milk and chocolate gradually because chocolate burns easily and burned foods will not ease the bad smell that can occur during the bath.

Don’t forget to drain the tub and then shower after you are done soaking to wash off the offensive scent that milk residue can leave behind.

For women in the information technolgy industry, greater effort needs to continue to even the already staggeringly biased ratio.

In an IT department of 20 people how many are female? Experience has shown me that a figure of 1 or 2 is being very generous. That makes 5-10% female and 90-95% male. Lower level technical support might sport a better ratio for females, but the more advanced and thus lucrative jobs are predominantly men.

A college graduate can earn salaries ranging from the mid 20,000′s for helpdesk up to 6 or 7 figures for IT professionals and managers. High schoolers have similar opportunities and will only be limited if some jobs require a degree. Higher skills lead to higher end salaries. So why are girls and young women missing this great opportunity to be involved in a lucrative area of business?

It starts when we are young, girls are given an Easy Bake Oven to learn to cook, Barbie’s to learn about fashion and the importance of appearance, and baby dolls to nurture and “raise.” They then go off to school and are less likely to be called on in class (especially math and science classes). They get to high school and by this point doubt their math/science skills and tend to take the minimum classes required. The importance of appearances, popularity and “marrying a good wealthy man” are reinforced more strongly than professional success throughout adolescents through peer and parent pressures. The IT field in particular is contrary to what they are taught because it is thought of as “nerdy.”

Although the bias against girls may diminish at the college level, by this point many girls have already developed their avoidance of technical topics and courses. Thus once at college there is no reason to take more than the required math/science classes…focusing more on social sciences, foreign languages, or art. This of course is not true of all girls, but is very common. So what do we do? Parents don’t be so insistent that your daughters follow the “traditional” path to domesticity, let them explore the potential of their own minds. There are no limits to what girls and women can do, no limits except the ones we place on ourselves. Girls, do what you enjoy and realize that you deserve a high tech and high paying jobs as much as anyone!

Well that’s nice, you say, but what can I do?? First of all, a major in computer science is very likely to double an average college graduate’s salary. But you don’t have to have a computer science major to make it in Information Technology and still make good money. Most high schools and colleges have some sort of IT courses and many have programs that get you certified, such as an MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) or a CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) both of which are in extremely high demand. If your high school or college does not have a program, it wouldn’t hurt to suggest that they start (that is how it began in the first place). This can get your foot well in to the door straight out of highschool and can get you into the mid 20K’s to low 40K’s. Don’t blow off the benefits of college since with a college degree you will be a hot commodity and this salary range is even higher. Most community colleges offer current certification and technical courses for a reasonable fee (when you consider the high salary you will earn). And of course, never underestimate the power of surfing the web where much more information is available at the click of a button.
